Full Bellies & Empty Hands (our 2022 letter)

Another year has come and gone. The girls are doing wonderfully. Sarah Jr. and Gloria were baptized and received new white church dresses, as is the tradition in Ghana. Lucky and Sarah Jr. are playing volleyball for the school team. Sarah Sr., Dina, God’s Way, and Richlove, will start high school this spring, and Lucky, Regina, Sarah Jr., and Gloria are in various stages of middle school. Modern technology is a mixed bag, but we are grateful every day for the chance to text with Mercy and Bernard on a regular basis, and to see the pictures they send. Next year we will celebrate 10 years since The Yellow House became fully operational–can you believe it?

Happy New Year

In all honesty, I feel sad as I sit down to write this letter. Like many of you, COVID-19 has delayed and rearranged our plans many times, and I am having to give an update of the girls and The Yellow House without having stepped foot in Ghana for two years.

2020 in Review

2020 has certainly brought with it unique challenges and circumstances. November marked a year since our last visit to Ghana. Never have we been so thankful for the competency and leadership of our staff and for 21st-century technology! Mercy, Helen, Bernard, and Celestine have navigated the pandemic with ease and confidence.

This is, without a doubt, the longest time that has elapsed between a trip to Ghana and the follow-up blog post. I got back the day before Thanksgiving and spent the next two months working on Christmas mailers and taxes for Eight Oaks. We are expecting our second baby in the next few weeks and I just realized that I never got around to sharing about my trip, although I started this post back in February.
