2020 in Review

Dear friends-

2020 has certainly brought with it unique challenges and circumstances. November marked a year since our last visit to Ghana. Never have we been so thankful for the competency and leadership of our staff and for 21st-century technology! Mercy, Helen, Bernard, and Celestine have navigated the pandemic with ease and confidence.

Much like America, Ghana has been subjected to a series of lockdown measures to prohibit the spread of COVID-19. The girls have been doing their schoolwork and worshipping at home since this spring. Bernard conducts church services in the Yellow House courtyard on Sundays and Celestine is helping the girls with their homework during the week.

The Yellow House has seen it’s fair share of quarantine projects-most exciting is the construction of a chicken coop in the yard so our hens have a place to nest and lay eggs! This, combined with the garden, is helping us move toward self-sustainability when it comes to our food costs, and is especially convenient when observing social distancing.

The girls celebrated 7 years of freedom in November. Their growth and maturation in that time is nothing short of remarkable. Whether you have been a supporter since the beginning or have come alongside us more recently, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers, monetary contributions, and donations of talents, time, etc.

This year has brought so many challenges but we have been buoyed by the steadfastness of your partnership, the faithfulness and courage of our Ghanaian staff, and the relentless flourishing of our eight wonderful girls.

We are anxious for this pandemic to end so we can, amongst other things, make a trip to Ghana. Until then, what a comfort it is to remember that Jesus first entered the world during a time fraught with political tensions, death, disease, and heartbreak. We need him now as much as we did 2,000 years ago. We hope and pray that this letter finds you healthy and able to savor this Advent season.
